Overview

Stars of Remembrance” lets the audience leave their own stars in the night sky attached with messages commemorating their loved ones, allowing them to put a final chapter to the shared memories, relieve any emotional burden, and move on. The exhibit makes use of the Unity framework, rear projection, a time of flight sensor, and a Bluetooth keyboard.

Concept

Our interactive installation is driven by four key components: Unity software, a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor, an Arduino setup, and a Bluetooth keyboard. Viewers engage with the installation by typing a response to a prompt displayed on the projection screen. Each response transforms into a star that carries their message and becomes part of a constellation on the screen. Participants are then invited to approach the projection to uncover their star and explore messages from others. The ToF sensor detects their position, revealing the stars directly in front of them for a personal and immersive experience.

Demo

We showcased our demo at the Industrial Design Launch Pad ‘24, where it received an incredible response. By the end of the event, our installation had collected over 100 heartfelt messages on the screen. Passersby of all ages and backgrounds stopped to interact, leaving loving and thoughtful contributions that brought the project to life.
